Review: Persian Fire, Tom Holland (or, awesome stories)

Posted in 5 Stars, Picked up randomly, tagged A.E. Housman also has a poem about Thermopylae of which my favorite line is "The King with half the east at heel is marched from lands of morning" (brr), Cavafy, classical antiquity is my favorite because I do not have to feel responsible for their wicked deeds but can feel patriotic about their good ones, it pleases me that this post incorporates an awesome story about the birth of democracy as well as a Gossip Girl reference, it was good in the LOTR film when Arwen was all "If you want him come and claim him" but she sort of stole it from Leonidas, my true apologies to Iran for any overtones of bloodthirsty Persia-loathing because actually I think Persia is and was quite magnificent, Persian Fire, Tom Holland on June 12, 2011 | 35 Comments »

Sleep No More (theater production)

Posted in 5 Stars, Misc., tagged based on the Scottish play or else on Rebecca or else on Hitchcock films, I kept spending all my time opening books to check that they were relevant to the rooms they were in (they always were), I seriously thought Lady Macduff was going to lose the baby even though she of course wasn’t really pregnant, immersive theater experience, my ticket was a playing card!, Sleep No More, stand by for a post about why I am genuinely afraid of mandrakes, the angels have the phone box, the end of the play was very creepy indeed, the stone pointing woman did not have wings but that did not reassure me, this post came out way long, when we first came in we had to walk down this pitch-black corridor which was terrifying on June 6, 2011 | 31 Comments »
